Sound Spectrum Pro for Windows
Help page
Buttons and menus
- File - Load/save Calibration files, set input sensitivities.
- Mode - Change the display mode to FFT, RTA,
SPL/LEQ Meter, or Impulse response.
- Trace - Display/hide the graphs
- Live - Real time data.
- Peak/Valley - Peak and/or valley hold with adjustable hold time.
- File * - Load and display up to three data files (can be calibration files).
- Frequency bands for Impulse response.
- Sound - Start/stop a Signal generator, set loopback mode.
- View
- FULL screen - First tap scales to a fixed range, second extends to actual min/max if they are outside the fixed range. For linear amplitude scale, the second tap zooms in to current amplitude.
- Remove cursors
- Log scale X/Y - Independent Lin/Log scales.
- Max peak - Show the frequency and level of the highest peak.
- dBZ in RTA - Show dBZ calculation on top of dBA and dBC, when in RTA mode.
- LAeq15/60 in LEQ meter - Show LAeq calculations when in SPL/LEQ Meter mode.
- THD+N vs. cursor in FFT - Show Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise when in FFT mode. It will assume the left-hand cursor is on the fundamental (you can use the internal tone generation). It is calculated from 20Hz to 20kHz.
- RTA as bar graph - Traditional bar graph RTA, as opposed to line steps (try it!).
- Cursor select timeout - The cursors automatically deselect after a while.
- Help
- Online docs - This help.
- FFT speed - FFT calculation benchmark. Good values (smooth display) are below 40ms. The app can take advantage of SSE and AVX features of your CPU.
- FFT size - Number of FFT samples used by the calculation.
- Window type - Window applied to the audio samples before the FFT calculation.
- Smoothing time constant - Higher values give more readable (slow) graphs and reduce noise, lower values give more lively real-time graphs.
- RUN - Start/stop the audio acquisition. Shortcut key: R.
- FULL screen - First tap scales to a fixed range, second extends to actual min/max if they are outside the fixed range. For linear amplitude scale, the second tap zooms in to current amplitude. Shortcut key: F.
- Sync - Toggle Synchronous measurement mode.
- Volume bar - Set the volume of the Signal generator.
The graph window (mouse)
- Pan - Drag with left mouse button. Pan up/down with the mouse wheel.
- Zoom - Drag with right mouse button, or CTRL-mouse wheel.
- Place a cursor - Left click on the graph. A cursor will appear on the peak nearest to the tap. There are two cursors. If you tap in the low part of the screen (bottom 20%), the cursor goes to the nearest valley.
- Select/deselect a cursor - Left click on it. The cursors have an automatic deselect timeout (see View).
When a cursor is selected (white), you can:
- Drag it with the left mouse button(you don't need to have the mouse on the cursor)
- Delete it by tapping on the X mark at the top.
- Delete both from the View menu or with C key.
The graph window (touchscreen)
- Pan - Drag with one finger. If a cursor is selected (white), drag with two fingers.
- Zoom - Pinch with two fingers. A mostly horizontal pinch will only zoom X, a mostly vertical pinch will only zoom Y. A diagonal pinch will zoom both.
- Place a cursor - Tap on the graph. A cursor will appear on the peak nearest to the tap. There are two cursors. If you tap in the low part of the screen (bottom 20%), the cursor goes to the nearest valley.
- Select/deselect a cursor - Tap on it. The cursors have an automatic deselect timeout (see Settings).
When a cursor is selected (white), you can:
- Drag it with one finger (you don't need to have the finger on the cursor)
- Delete it by tapping on the X mark at the top.
- Delete both from the View menu or with C key.
Audio in/out
- The app uses for audio the devices defined as "default" in Windows Settings.
- If the data rates of input and output do not match, the app will try to negotiate equal data rates. If this fails, the synchronous features (e.g. Impulse response) will not work.
